Message From The Club President : LEO WONG RU WEN @ RUWEN Greetings to our distinguished Guest of Honour, Lions, Lionesses, Faculty Advisors, Leo Advisor, Fellows Leos and who are present today. As all of us know, everyone creates waste. Some of the waste that we have created like used-up cans, papers, plastic bags, glasses and many more can be recycled. All of our waste used to end up in some landfills or incinerator which acts as a “resolution” for waste. Based on the statistic, each one of us creates nearly one kilogram of waste a day. What makes matters worst is, some of the waste contains toxic chemical which is a threat to our health and strongly polluted our environment, the precious gift from our mother nature. An obvious example for this problem is-A seaside factory in Minamata Japan discharge its waste into the sea which contains mercury compounds. This act caused many pregnant women give birth to severely deformed children as they have consumed the infected fish. Therefore, we must reduce waste. And the recommended way is to RECYCLE: reproduce recyclable materials. This is because we have running out of space to dispose our waste and incineration does not appears to be a wise alternative as it cost a lot. The journey of a thousands miles star with the first step, start recycling now, our environment is our future and prevent is indeed better than cure. So, do save our environment and prevent it from getting polluted by all sorts of unnecessary waste. Hence, before I take leave, I wish to congratulate all the organizing committee members especially the organizing chairperson which have strived very hard to make this function a success. Message From The Organizing Chairperson : LEO TAN PEI PEI A very good morning to our distinguished guest of honour, Leo Advisor, Faculty Advisor, Lions, Lionesses, ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all of you here in this morning to our major project; organized by the Leo Club of SMJK POI LAM themed “RECYCLE, Reuse, Reproduce, Rebuild A Better Environment”. It is a great privilege and honour to be appointed as the organizing chairperson for this suspicious event. The aim of this function is to acknowledge the publicity about the importance of recycling as well as the importance of clean environment. Nowadays, our environment is polluted. The air we breath in is polluted, the water we drink is polluted and also all the environment. Let me ask you one question. Do you want to live in a dirty environment? Definitely you will say “NO!” Everyday , every one of us makes rubbish and pollutes the environment. So, we should reduce it. If all of us know the importance of a clean environment, we will surely always keep the environment clean. So, let us clean the environment together. Finally, I would like to say “THANK YOU” to all of you for coming. I hope that everyone will enjoy yourselves today. I wish you all will have an enjoyable and memorable time on this suspicious event. Remember think before you throw!! Thank you. 1. ADOPTION PROJECT ~ As one of the sub-activities during this RECYCLE Major Project, our Leo Club has successfully adopted a garden in school. We have our daily watering plants section as well as weekly beautifying Leo Garden to maintain it. Besides, we will create some wall painting, planting new flowers and we have planned to make a mini nursery in school. 2. RECYCLE CAMPAIGN ~ This campaign is officially open with and opening ceremony from 22nd MARCH 2004 - 10th APRIL 2004 during our school assembly by our principal, senior assistants, faculty advisors, club president and all organizing committee members. 3. RECYCLE TALK ~ During this RECYCLE Major Project, we manage to invite Mr. Kamarul, representative from DBI Ipoh to give a talk on Recycle. This talk is dedicated to all POI LAM students, Leos and the publicity to acknowledge them about the importance of RECYCLING. 4. RECYCLE EXHIBITION ~ This exhibition can be used as a tool to let all of us know about all sorts of information we require to know about recyclable materials, ways of recycle, particular symbol for certain recyclable materials and many more. 5. RECYCLE POSTER-DRAWING COMPETITION ~ Through this competition, participants are given a chance to show how much they know about “RECYCLE”. Simultaneously, they are too given an opportunity to show their “COLOURS” as well. 6. RECYCLE MODEL-BUILDING COMPETTION ~ This competition is open to all Leo Clubs (308-B2), societies, clubs and uniform units. Champion for this competition is the Art Club from SMJK POI LAM, Fourth Runner-up: Leo Club of AMC, Third Runner-up: Leo Club of Sam Tet, Second Runner-up: Leo Club of Sam Tet and the First Runner-up is Youth Cadet from SMJK POI LAM. 7. COLLECT RECYCLABLE MATERIALS FROM SCHOOL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ~ We have set up a special station in school to collect recyclable materials from teachers and students.
