Ten Barisan Nasional state assemblymen sang at a dinner cum concert held at Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society, Macalister Road, Penang on Dec 18 in the event of raising the SMJK Phor Tay relocation fund.
"Works are underway to move Phor Tay High School to Sungai Dua and only RM15mil of the RM30mil needed has been raised so far," said Batu Uban assemblyman Goh Kheng Sneah in a press conference during a break in the State Assembly sitting yesterday. Work on the new site had started on Nov 1 and was due to be completed in 48 weeks, Goh added. "From this dinner and concert, we are hoping to raise at least RM500,000 for the relocation fund," he said. Goh said having the school in the Southwest district would give opportunities for 8,000 pupils of nine nearby Chinese primary schools. "An estimate of 1,300 Chinese school primary pupils in the area graduate every year, so the relocation of SMJK Phor Tay is timely," Goh said. |
